Game Highlights

AVYFA Kickoff Bowl at Boron

We participated in the AVYFA Kickoff Bowl on August 23, 2008 in Boron. Sixty-two teams from all thirteen AVYFA communities played scrimmages. Each team got to scrimmage with three or four other teams. We do not have pictures from all of the scrimmages. Pictures Here.

RIM @ Mammoth

The Freshmen coached by Bobbie Pina and James Gray fought a valiant defense holding RIM to three touchdowns and one point after. Jesse Montanez spent a lot of time in the RIM backfield disrupting their plays. Junior Ramerez and Cody Elliott contributed long runs but the Freshmen couldn't get into the end zone.
Final score, Mammoth 0 - RIM 19.

Mojave @ Mojave

The Rookies had the day off so three of them joined the Freshmen who played an exciting game. Junior Ramerez, Max Mueller and Cody Elliott racked up yards for the offense. Cody scored the first touchdown on a long run. Max took in the point after. After a long gain by Junior, Cody ran into the end zone but was called back on a penalty. Max made a long run for the second touchdown. Jesse Montanez kept disrupting the Mojave backfield. Mojave scored twice .. Junior ran a long one for the third Mammoth touchdown. Maxwell Boyer-Tolley recovered a Mojave fumble to set up the next Mammoth score by Cody to make it 25-12 Mammoth at the half.

Mammoth held Mojave on fourth down. Jesse and Joseph Conn trapped Mojave ball carriers in their backfield. Christian Orrick downed the Mojave player in their backfield to take over on fourth down. Cody made a long run to the 3 yard line and Tony Marquez blasted through center for the fifth score. Jesse dropped Mojave for a big loss. Cody chased down the Mojave runner to prevent a touchdown but Mojave was able to put in their third score. Everyone had a great game playing hard. Final Score: Mammoth 31 - Mojave 18.

Kern Valley @ Mammoth

The Freshmen didn't have a good day. After a great win the week before, they just couldn't get their game in gear. Final score: Mammoth 0 - Kern Valley 25.

Bishop @ Bishop

The Freshmen, with help from two Rookies, fielded 11 men. Cody Elliott brought down Broncos and advanced the ball for his team. Matthew Hornbeck and teammates tackled Broncos. Cody scored on a 50 yard run. Tony Marquez took in the point after and also recovered a Bishop fumble. The Huskies played hard but Bishop had the stronger team. Final Score: Mammoth 7 - Bishop 27.

Lancaster @ Lancaster

With the help of some Rookie and Sophomore players, the Freshmen played 11-man against the undefeated Lancaster Cowboys .. holding them to 6 points in the first half. It was a hard fought game but the Cowboys broke a runner loose twice in the second half and the Huskies were unable to get into the end zone.
Final score: Mammoth 0 – Lancaster 19

Trona @ Mammoth

The Freshmen had a great day with Max Mueller, Tony Marquez and Cody Elliott making a number of long runs for first downs. The defense pushed Trona back and scored a safety. Cody scored the first touchdown on an eleven yard run. Early in the second half he recovered a Trona fumble. Tony set up the next touchdown on a 45 yard run and Cody broke tackles on a 15 yard charge into the end zone. Max carried the ball to the 1 yard line, then charged in for the touchdown. Jesse Montanez played great defense and stole the ball twice from Trona players to run for two touchdowns. The defense played strong to keep Trona from scoring. Final score: Mammoth 33 - Trona 0.

Boron @ Boron

The Freshmen put up a strong defense to hold the Boron Wildcats to one touchdown. Tony Marquez made key tackles and first downs. Max Mueller got in a nice run. Cody Elliott carried the ball on a long run to the 5 yard line but the Wildcats held. Christian Orrick got in the Boron backfield. Max recovered a Boron fumble. Several Rookies joined in so the team could play 11-man. Everyone played hard but the team was unable to score.
Final score: Mammoth 0 – Boron 7
