Game Highlights

AVYFA Kickoff Bowl at Mammoth

We participated in the AVYFA Kickoff Bowl on August 22, 2009 at Mammoth. Forty-two teams from all ten AVYFA communities played scrimmages. Each team got to scrimmage with four other teams. We played Bishop, California City, Mojave and High Desert. We do not have pictures from all of the scrimmages.

Big Bear @ Mammoth

In a light rain the Juniors just couldn't get their game going. The defense had a hard time stopping the Bears. In the second half Steven Orrick #81 intercepted a Big Bear pass to stop their drive. The team stopped all but one point after. Alex Mueller #32 and Nathan Liuag #21 made yards but couldn't get into the end zone. Late in the game Nathan charged up the field for 35 yards. Final Score: Mammoth 0 - Big Bear 31

High Desert Patriots @ High Desert Patriots

California City @ California City

Alex Mueller #32, Nathan Liuag #21, Brett Morris #10 and Steven Orrick #81 got in some great open field tackles and the rest of the defense played hard against California City but couldn't keep them from scoring. Alfredo Cecena #64, Nathan Liuag #21 and the rest of the Huskie offense played tough but couldn't get into the end zone.
Final score: Mammoth 0 – California City 34

Kern Valley @ Kern Valley

Alex Mueller #32 started off with a 30 yard run and Nathan Liuag #21 made a 20 yard touchdown with David Trujillo #54 taking in the point after. The defense held Kern Valley on the eleven yard line. Nathan made a series of 20+ yard first downs and added a 15 yard touchdown down the right side. Tony Marquez #40 added the point after. Kern Valley scored. David Trujillo #54, Brett Morris #10 and Nathan Liuag #21 made a series of charges through center to the 15 yard line when the first half ended.

Mammoth recovered a KV on-side kick off. Nathan and David moved the ball. Jack Roten #22 took the ball to the 4 yard line and Nathan ran in touchdown number three. Steven Orrick #81 intercepted a KV pass. Alfredo Cecena #64 and David repeatedly charged up center. Alfredo took the ball to the 4 yeard line .. then David took it to the one foot line. KV recovered a Mammoth fumble to stop that drive. Alfredo got in the KV backfield for a 5 yard loss. The defense held KV with some strong play. David behind strong offensive blocking relentlessly moved the ball up center. Alfredo ran the ball on the left side for the Huskies fourth touchdown and David charged through center for the point after.
Final score: Mammoth 27 – Kern Valley 14

Bishop @ Mammoth

This was a battle to the final seconds. Nathan Liuag #21 seven yards up the middle. David Trujillo #54 lots of yards up the middle. Alex Mueller #32 big run on the right side for first down. Nathan 25 yard first down. Alex again. But Bishop held Mammoth at the 20 yard line. Alex a key tackle. Mammoth held Bishop.

Bishop scores. Travis Kreis #8 blocks point after with a tackle. David up the middle. Alfredo Cecena up the middled for first down. Alfredo 25 yards on the right side for first down. David up the middle. Alfredo left side for first down. David up middle. Alfredo left side and up middle. Nathan up middle. Bishop held Mammoth on the 15 yard line. Alfredo in the Bishop back field as the half ended.

Mammoth in Bishop backfield for 8 yard loss. Tim Wolfe #89 tackle in the back field for loss. Mammoth ganged up on Bishop and held them. Alfredo up left side for a gain. David up middle for first down. Steven Orrick tackles Bishop pass receiver. Mammoth recovers Bishop fumble. Nathon runs 62 yards to the one foot line but called back on a penalty. Nathan right side for first down. Nathan right side for 8 yards. Alex up middle for first down. Alex left side for four yards. Nathan breaks tackles and drags defenders with him to the 14 yard line. Alex breaks tackles to the 6 yard line. Nathan up middle for first down on the 1 yard line. Bishop recovers Mammoth fumble.

Tim Wolf #89 gets in Bishop back field for a loss. Mammoth blocks Bishop punt and Alfredo recovers the ball in the end zone for touchdown to tie the game 6-6 with five and a half minutes left in the game. Nathan in the Bishop back field. Mammoth holds Bishop. Nathan makes a couple big runs for first downs. Bishop takes over on downs and scores on a pass play with two seconds left in the game. Final score: Mammoth 6 – Bishop 12

Trona @ Mammoth

Playing 8-man, the Juniors had a strong game. Trona kicked off and Brett Morris #10 covered the ball. Nathan Liuag #21 passed to Alfredo Cecena #64 who ran 35 yards for the first Huskie touchdown. Trona came right back with a 65 yard kickoff return to score. Brett covered the kickoff again. Steven Orrick #81 up the middle for 4 yards. Alex Mueller #32 broke tackles for first down. Nathan ran 20 yards for a first down but it was called back. Alex up the middle for first down. Trona intercepts Mammoth pass. Alfredo in the Trona back field. Tim Wolfe #89 recovered punt. Christian 4 yards up middle. Jack Roten #22 made a series of gains to the 1 yard line and Christian scored the second Huskie touchdown.

Alex tackles kickoff return for no gain. Jack tackles pass receiver. Trona scores on 52 yard pass play. Steven Orrick #81 recovers kickoff. Alex picks up first down on two plays. Steven picks up first down. Nathan runs 20 yards on right side for third touchdown. Alex recovers Trona fumble on kickoff. Mammoth fumbles to Trona. Trona fumbles to Mammoth. Jack and Christian pick up a series of first downs and Jack scores fourth Huskie touchdown. Nathan almost intercepts Trona pass. Christian makes a big run as the first half ends.

Brett Morris #10 intercepts Trona pass and runs 50 yards for touchdown. Logan DeAngelis #52 kicks the point after. Trona scores on 58 yard pass play. Steven picks up 6 yards on kickoff return. Christian and Jack move steadily up the field with a series of first downs to the 9 yard line. Jack drags defenders into the end zone for a touchdown. Alfredo in the Trona back field.

Trona scores on a pass play. Christian recovers on-side kickoff. Jack drags defenders and breaks tackles for first downs to the 2 yard line but Trona holds Mammoth. Trona scores on an 80 yard run. Steven takes the kickoff. Alex turns a broken play into 11 yard first down. The Huskies played outstanding offense and defense.
Final score: Mammoth 38 – Trona 33

Mojave @ Mammoth

Mammoth in Mojave back field. Alfredo Cecena #64 key tackle. Steven Orrick #81 and Travis Kreis #8 tackle. Christian Orrick #11 and Alfredo Cecena #64 in the back field. Mammoth takes over on downs - then fumbles. Oden Weir #99, Travis and Alfredo in the back field for losses. Mojave scores. Steven Orrick #81 takes the kickoff and returns it 14 yards. Logan DeAngelis #52 in back field. Mojave scores. Christian Orrick #11 catches kick off and returns it 7 yards. David Trujillo #54 up the middle. Nathan Liuag #21 makes a big 23 yard first down to the 35 yard line. Alfredo Cecena #64 chases down Mojave player on 40 yard run to save touchdown. Mojave scores on 25 yard run.

Second half Nathan Liuag picked up 25 yards on the left side. Mojave scored. Oden Weir #99 took the kickoff. Mojave scored on a 17 yard pass play. Seven Orrick #81 returned kickoff 18 yards. Mojave scored. Nathan Liuag # 21 returned kickoff 22 yards. Brett Morris #10 completed a pass to Tim Wolfe #89 for first down. Nathan picked up big first down on the right side. The Huskies were held by the strong Mojave line and were unable to score.

RIM @ RIM

The Juniors started off with Nathan Liuag #21 moving the ball up the field for first downs. RIM scored. Alfredo Cecena in RIM back field. Steven Orrick #81 blocks RIM pass. RIM completes pass and Nathan chases receiver down to stop touchdown. RIM scores twice. Alex Mueller #32 almost intercepts RIM pass. Travis Kreis #8 recovers Mammoth fumble. RIM scores three more times. Mammoth never got their game going against a strong RIM team.
Final score: Mammoth 0 – RIM 40

Boron @ Mammoth

Boron kicked things off with a 55 yard touchdown run. Nathan Liuag #21 made a big return on the kickoff. Alex Mueller #32 up middle for first down. Boron takes over on downs. Alfredo Cecena #64 in Boron backfield. Jack Roten #22 stops a long run. Boron scores. Nathan makes another long kickoff return. Steven Orrick #81 makes first down. Nathan moves ball to the 1 yard line and Alex Mueller up the middle for touchdown. Nathan passes to Alex for point after. Mammoth gets in the Boron backfield but Boron scores.

The second half starts with Everest Webber #23 covering the kickoff. Nathan Liuag #21 makes a 23 yard run up the right side. Nathan goes up right side again for touchdown and Alfredo Cecena #64 goes up middle for the point after. Boron scores. Jack Roten #22 makes a 42 yard first down. Nathan scores but it's called back on a penalty. Nathan makes first down on 9 yard line. Alex and Nathan move ball to 2 yard line but Boron takes over on downs on 1 yard line. Alfredo catches runner to stop 33 yard run. Mammoth recovers Boron fumble. Boron holds and Mammoth punts. Julia Loera #61 saves a touchdown with tackle. Jack roten #22 pulls down runner. Julia breaks tackles for 15 yard gain .. fumbles .. recovered by Steven Orrick #81. David Trujillo #54 up middle for 5 yards. Pass to Alex Mueller #32 for first down.
